Person evacuated from blaze that started at an engine workshop in Kilsyth

ONE person has been evacuated after a fire started at an engine workshop in Melbourne's north this morning.

Ten fire crews responded to the blaze which started at 8.30am on Shelley Ave in Kilsyth.

Commander Andrew O'Connell said the blaze was under control by 9.30am but fire fighters would be on scene to tackle hot spots throughout the Grand Final afternoon.

"There was a large plume of smoke when we arrived in the area and there were flames coming from the roof,'' he said.

"We evacuated one person from the workshop.''

Environmental Protection Authority officers were on site to clean-up a large motor oil leak.
